Mission is North Carolina's 6th largest health system and the only tertiary care regional referral center in western North Carolina. It provides the region's only Children's Hospital and Level II Trauma Center and is the 2nd busiest surgical hospital in NC. It's in the top 1% of hospitals nationally for mortality reduction. It's ER is the 3rd busiest in NC and one of the busiest in the nation. It's rated one of the nation's Top 15 Health Systems by Truven Health Analytics for a remarkable fifth time in the past six years and one of the best 100 hospitals seven years in a row. Mission Hospital earned a 4-star rating in 2016 for Medicare Hospital Compare from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Mission Hospital ranked among the top 1% of “Best Hospitals” nationally in 2016 by HealthGrades and ranked No. 1 “Best Hospital” in North Carolina in 2016 by Business North Carolina. We enjoy family times outside on our deck, cook outs, evenings by the fire pit in the garden, quiet walks in the neighborhood, sitting on our Pergola, listening to the slow drip of water over the ancient rock into the pool below, full of tadpoles. We enjoy having a garden with something blooming year round. We all like different things, my husband loved to hunt, we both enjoyed camping, hiking, and driving around these ancient mountains, exploring small towns, going to festivals. I also love to read and write. The Great Smokies Writing program, UNCA and Ollie are wonderful resources for here for me.Ours is a neighborhood of professional caregivers, musicians / artists, and gardeners who value their privacy and yet enjoy community in our quiet cove. We are connected by a mutual love of nature and we are activists in our larger community. We are dedicated to supporting one another in any crisis or need. When my husband died, unexpectedly, we were showered with kindness and practical help by our neighbors. When several of our neighbors died years before, my husband and I built a Community Memorial Garden on our property to honor their memory. It has become a gathering spot for the neighborhood. We share abundance from our gardens, exchange plants, food, art and ideas. It's a comfortable place to raise children with enticing places to play and creeks, springs, salamanders, birds and chipmunks to entertain them.

"Seller Says"

The things I love about my home town are the beautiful, serene location nestled in the arms of the Appalachian Mountains with unlimited opportunities for outdoor activities for people of all ages, diverse arts and educational opportunities, the availability of good local food at farmers markets, the abundant selection of restaurants, and the friendly, engaged people who live in our community. My favorite place to eat close to home is Avenue M - a local bar / restaurant featuring local fare served with a flair and always scallops on the menu in a variety of presentations.

There are so many good places all less than 5 minutes from home: For a quick breakfast, Geraldine's Bakery - transplanted right out of NYC, is a local favorite. Ambrosia Bar and Bistro and Siam Thai ( absolutely the BEST Thai food in a quiet place that invites conversation) are my favorite lunch spots, but I also enjoy Zen Sushi, Vinnie's Italian , Homegrown (provides delicious local sourced fare), Marco's Pizza, Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company where you can enjoy your meal with a good movie, Plants for a great vegetarian meal. The City Bakery Cafe offers delicious pastries, baked goods and a great place for lunch. It's right next door to Bone and Broth - with local food from the old time meat market just next door and not far from Gan Shan Station serving Chinese, Thai, and Asian meals in a garden like setting. For special celebrations, you can't beat the Grove Park Inn's Sunset Terrace (only 2.6 miles away - almost in our back yard through the woods - our son thought it was his second home at an early age and walked there on a daily basis.) The best ice cream places are not far either, Whitt's Frozen Custard, The Hop, and the new Frostbite offer lots of choices.Grocery stores are plentiful and offer an opportunity to enjoy shopping close to home ( from 1.7 to 3.6 miles away): Fresh Market, Ingles, Trader Joe's , Harris Teeter and Greenlife are all on the North end of Merrimon Avenue. Additionally I enjoy the WNC Farmer's Market (8.4 miles) and the Local City Farmer's Market that is available once each week of the season at the UNC-Asheville Campus (2.7 miles away).

When we bought this property, we were enticed by the quiet peaceful neighborhood, creeks, woods, wildlife and abundant gardens on a dead end street. We've always appreciated the privacy offered here; it was the perfect place to raise our 3 sons. Just a block away is Grove Park Cove, a luxury development, that abuts our property, with large lots, beautifully landscaped streets and sidewalks, long range mountain views of the Beaverdam Valley and only a few homes. Folks here love to walk their dogs, ride bikes and walk off Thanksgiving Dinner there. It's like having our own private park. We are only 2 miles from the Country Club, where we enjoy teaching Tai Chi and 2.3 miles from Ira B Jones Elementary School where our sons had a great start on their education.

The bus line is only a block away.Asheville offers something enticing for everyone. I enjoy working close to home at Mission, one of the top rated hospitals in the country, only 5.6 miles away and earning my Masters at UNC-A, one of the better liberal arts colleges, ranked #8 by US News and World Report in 2017's top public schools in the country. My husband and I loved hiking the Appalachian Trail and for years, trekked spring and fall to Mount LeConte for an overnight get away. Sliding Rock is another favorite especially for children and teens who also enjoy the NC Cradle of Forestry and the NC Arboretum. There are wonderful camping opportunities here, as well as live theater and music events - all kinds of music: classical, blues, country and rock at different venues. Our family also enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking these ancient mountains. Our home is only 12 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway - an inviting place any time of year but especially in the fall when the changing leaves turn our mountains crimson and gold. It's a comfort to know that excellent medical facilities are so close at hand. I value competence and my experience at Mission both as employee and patient has only enhanced my respect.
