Private Well Water Contamination

If you are thinking of selling your home, and your water source is a private well, it's a good idea to go ahead and get it tested. In fact, if you own a home with a well, it's also a good idea to protect your family from potentially harmful bacteria. You can do this as part of our Certified Pre-Owned process - www.CPOExperts.com

If you are selling your home, many buyers will be getting a loan and some loans require a well water test. It is not unusual for this to happen just days before your home closes, i.e., is transferred to the buyer. Should the well water 'fail', it could delay your closing. Remediation is usually by 'shocking' the well - this can be done by the homeowner, or call a company that deals with treatment and testing to do it for you.

In Western NC, this ranges from $400 and up. Once the well is shocked, the company can retest 24+ hours later to make sure the well is now clear. There are a number of companies that can do this for you in the Western North Carolina area, for example, A 1st Well Choice Service. Do you know a great well company? Comment below.

North Carolina produced a flyer on a common type of bacteria found in well water as follows:
