Private Well Water Contamination

If you are thinking of selling your home, and your water source is a private well, it's a good idea to go ahead and get it tested. If you are selling your home, many buyers will be getting a loan and some loans require a well water test. It is not unusual for this to happen just days before your home closes, i.e., is transferred to the buyer. Should the well water 'fail', it could delay your closing. Remediation is usually by 'shocking' the well - this can be done by the homeowner, or call a company that deals with treatment and testing to do it for you.

In Western NC, this ranges from $400 and up. Once the well is shocked, the company can retest 24+ hours later to make sure the well is now clear.
