"Seller Says"
'Seller Says' gives buyers the story behind a listing, straight from the people who know the home best.
Sellers share what they love about the property, neighborhood, local restaurants, conveniences and everyday life, and we turn those insights into engaging, authentic content that helps buyers connect with the home before they ever step through the door. It’s more than a list of features, it’s the character, experience and local knowledge that make a property feel like home.
What We Loved About 73 Dalya Road and Swannanoa
The things I loved about Swannanoa were its peaceful, small-town atmosphere and its proximity to Asheville. It has a touch of Americana—a place where life feels quieter and more manageable, yet everything you need is still close by.
We could enjoy Asheville’s restaurants and theaters, attend a performance at the Peace Center in Greenville, or the Civic Center in Asheville, and then return home to a calm setting that felt removed from the noise and stress of city life. When we traveled - the airport was only 25 minutes drive away.
Our neighborhood always felt safe and welcoming. The neighbors were trustworthy, dependable, and very much like family. If something happened that we could not handle ourselves, we knew someone would be willing to help. The president of the Homeowners Association was also extremely responsive to questions and always ready to provide support and helpful recommendations. The community includes people at different stages of life, including younger families and those looking for a quieter, more manageable place to call home.
We also felt reassured by the responsiveness of local emergency services. When a neighbor’s visiting daughter needed medical attention, help arrived quickly and provided excellent care. The Asheville VA Medical Center, which is often voted the best in the country, is approximately three miles away and can generally be reached in less than 10 minutes, which is a tremendous benefit for veterans.
The neighborhood’s gently hilly terrain was wonderful for walking and biking. I especially loved taking 40-minute walks with my dog. Those walks gave me time to think, enjoy the surroundings, and simply be present. In the city, it always seemed as though something demanded our attention. Here, there were no constant sirens or distractions—just a sense of peace that we had never experienced before.
When we first saw the home, we were immediately drawn to the deck and outdoor space. We had never owned a home with a deck, and it became a favorite place to relax, watch the sunset, and enjoy nature. We could see meteor showers from the driveway, and one August we watched a lunar eclipse from home. You just had to set the alarm, put on something warm, step outside, and look up at the wonder of the night sky.

The backyard was another important feature. Of all the properties we visited, this was the only one that offered such a generous amount of usable space beyond the back porch. We were able to create a fenced area for the dog while still enjoying the low-maintenance advantages of townhouse living. In the spring, the native American wisteria growing along the fence produces beautiful lavender and purple flowers. It is absolutely joyful.

The home also provided an unusual amount of privacy and flexibility. It offers private bedroom-and-bath accommodations across three separate levels, and the lower level has its own entrance. This arrangement worked beautifully when family visited because everyone could have personal space. It could also be ideal for a family member who needs some support but still wants independence and the feeling of having a place of their own.
Our grandchildren loved visiting. The trees and natural surroundings attracted wildlife they did not ordinarily see—even spotting something as simple as a possum could be exciting.
Between the outdoor setting, nearby activities, and all the space inside the home, they always found plenty to enjoy.
Everyday conveniences were close. A large Ingles carries nearly everything we needed, including many health-food products. Hoppy’s, located in the shopping area near the gym, also offers a nice selection of health-conscious foods—including one of my favorites, hummus! The grocery stores, gym, and other conveniences are approximately five miles away and generally take less than 10 minutes to reach.
One of our favorite places to eat was East Village Grill, across from the VA hospital. The food is marvelous, the portions are generous, and the prices are fair. The staff goes out of its way to make sure guests are happy. Occasionally there may be a wait, but we always considered that a sign of good food and a restaurant people genuinely enjoy.
The home’s utility features also gave us comfort and peace of mind. Blossman supplied the propane for two gas fireplaces, the Generac generator, and the tankless on-demand water heater. Our propane cost was approximately $1,300 annually. Water service generally ranged from about $30 to $48 every other month, and private trash collection through FCC was approximately $81 every three months. Power outages were uncommon, but knowing we had the generator and gas fireplaces provided extra reassurance.
This truly felt like our forever home. If family circumstances had not drawn us closer to our loved ones, we would have been very happy to remain here. It was safe, peaceful, and surrounded by people who cared about one another. Everything we needed was close, yet we could sit on the deck, watch the sunset, walk the dog, observe wildlife, or simply enjoy the quiet.
We were caretakers along the way for this wonderful home, and are excited to pass it along to the new owners.
It was our little Eden. Yours, Sam and Penn
