The things we love about Asheville are the great restaurants and all the other great activities which are available.
We love to eat at many of Asheville's local restaurants, such as Curate', Limones, White Duck Taco, Tupelo Honey, 12 Bones, Doc Browns BBQ, Sunny Point and Biscuit Head.
There is a great, new Ingles grocery store within 5 minutes of our house, which has a Starbucks and a cafe, and we also shop at Trader Joes and Whole Foods. The Asheville Outlet Mall and Discount Shoes are both nearby on Brevard Road, and Mast General Store and Tops Shoes are fun places to shop downtown.
Finally, we use 2 local wine stores....Table Wine and the Asheville Wine Market. We are from California and know our wines, and these stores are wonderful.
We were first drawn to our property by the wrap-around porch and the great mountain views. We have enhanced these views during the time that we have owned the house.
The Asheville area is great because of the diversity of things you can do. You can hike, bike, camp, watch the leaves change, play golf, fish, or just relax on a rooftop bar and watch the sun set. You can beer taste at the many craft breweries, or try one of the two national brands which are located here....Sierra Nevada and New Belgium. You can become an annual member at the world renowned Biltmore House, which itself has a myriad of year round activities.
A couple other things to mention are the wine tasting at the Biltmore House, or at 2 wineries located in nearby Hendersonville...Burntshirt and St Paul Mountain Vineyard. If you're into horses, the Tryon International Equestrian Center is just 50 minutes away. It hosted last year's World Equestrian Games and has other events throughout the year.Of course we all like different things...we enjoy golf at the many different mountain courses throughout the area.
When the grandkids visit, they love to bike and hike at Dupont State Forest and the NC Arboretum grounds.
Our neighborhood is great for quiet, peaceful nights watching the sunset, or listening to the rain while sitting on the porch. We have deer and turkeys in our yard on a regular basis, and we have an annual barn party with a local band and great barbecue. When the leaves change, we don't have to get in the car to go see the colors...we have a great show from our own neighborhood.
Our utility costs are quite reasonable, as Blossman fills our propane tank once a year, (for the gas fireplaces) and Duke Energy provides our electricity at an average cost of $155 per month. We have no water bill due to our well and although we handle our own garbage, this service is available in the neighborhood.
