“Seller Says” -

I love Weaverville. It has that rare and special small town feel. Wonderful shopping and restaurants. Our neighborhood is full of what seems to be more distant these days for many - friendly neighbors, who are from all over the country. The property is only a short drive to downtown Weaverville or Asheville, and to the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway!

You may have heard that Asheville is a fine food center for the whole region, and Weaverville has its share. On Main Street we have fine dining at the Glass Onion and Stoneyknob, great pub fare at Twisted Laurel and the Main Street Grill, Asian / sushi at Soba and what many call the best pizza for hundreds of miles at the Blue Mountain Pizza.

Groceries and other shopping are less than 10 minutes from the house. We live in a beautiful secluded valley and conveniences are right down the road. Publix and Ingles. Lowes (very important for a new homeowner), a Walmart, pet store, ACE hardware, banks and more.

When we first bought the property, we were drawn to the privacy and the combination of pasture land and wooded land. Then we took in the VIEWS!! All year we have spectacular long mountain views as well as short mountain views. When the leaves fall, the whole mountain ridge to the north is also in view. We are surrounded by the best views in the area - hands down. (I know I am biased, but it's true!)

The Asheville area has so much to offer. You can enjoy the town, art, food, schools and universities and the best health care in the region and can be out in the natural world in 15 minutes.

Too hot? Drive up to the Parkway at 5,000 feet. Want snow? Go to Wolf Laurel or Maggie Valley. Beach and water? Lake James, Lake Hartwell are close and Charleston and the ocean are 4.5 hours away. The French Broach River is a water playground. Whitewater? Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) is the whitewater mecca of the East. Then there's the Biltmore House, the largest independent house in the country and the 3rd most popular tourist destination, foothills horse country and more.

One important thing to mention is that the house, and our whole valley, is in some of the most protected land you will find anywhere in the region. Upper Flat Creek road dead-ends less than a mile from the house so there is no through traffic. Most importantly, much of the forest and pasture land surrounding the house is in conservation easement - a land trust - meaning it will never be developed. I know this was important to us.

We enjoy the area and our neighborhood for many reasons, and living here gives us the opportunity to really get out and do the things we love and to learn new things. We have donkeys and goats - best pets! We kayak, bike, and hike in our beautiful mountains and rivers.

As a musician and music fan, there is no better place to play and hear great music of all kinds. I have always wanted to follow my Dad, and learn woodworking and carpentry. The workshop area of the house allows me to do that.

Horses have always been an important passion. The region opens doors like nowhere we have lived before.

I hope this gives you just a little idea of what living here can bring. Our neighborhood in the Upper Flat Creek Valley is pretty special. From day one, we have felt welcomed by families who have been here for generations, and by those who have come here more recently. This was very important when we moved here in 2010 from a big city. It has been "home" in every sense of the word. We have neighbor gatherings several times a year. It's especially important that our immediate neighbors have welcomed us. They could not be more helpful. We are very grateful for them.

Our utility costs are less than expected! Two reasons. First, we did an energy audit for the house after purchase and dramatically improved the full house insulation. These steps alone reduced the electric bills about 30%. Second, the house has solar hot water that significantly reduces the electric bills. Septic and well means - NO BILLS from the utilities!
