We have all been there. I know I have! I think my worst experience was after going through a divorce after an 18 year relationship, he left me to sort through all the collections we had gathered over the years!

Selling your home can be an exciting, yet daunting, endeavor. One of the first and most crucial steps in this journey is decluttering. It’s not just about making your home appealing to potential buyers; it’s about creating a space that feels welcoming and spacious. However, decluttering can be overwhelming, especially if you've accumulated years of belongings. In this post, we’ll explore some top organizational tools that can make this process smoother and more efficient. If you like to read - check out this book.

1. Start with a Solid Plan:

Before diving into the piles, it's essential to have a plan. Consider a planner or a specialized decluttering guide to help you create a step-by-step approach. This could include room-by-room strategies, timelines, and checklists to keep you on track.

2. Sorting Made Simple:

Once you're ready to start sorting, invest in some sturdy sorting bins. Label them clearly - 'Keep', 'Donate', 'Sell', and 'Trash'. This clear division makes the decision process much quicker and more straightforward. If you have already invested in the moving tubs, you can use those, before you use them to move.

3. Efficient Storage Solutions:

For items you want to keep but need to store away temporarily, consider using space-saving vacuum bags or stackable storage bins. These are great for seasonal clothing, extra bedding, and other bulky items. They help save a significant amount of space and can easily be stored in your basement, attic, or garage. Again, my faves, the moving tubs for all those uses. And you can see what's in them!

4. Maximizing Closet Space:

Closets are a focal point for many buyers. Use slim, non-slip hangers to create a uniform look in your closets. Adding a hanging organizer can also work wonders for storing shoes, accessories, and other small items, making your closet appear more organized and spacious. Use the tubs at the bottom of the closets and then you can grab them when ready to move!

5. Organizing Documents and Small Items:

Invest in a good-quality filing cabinet or document organizers for important papers. Drawer organizers can be a lifesaver for miscellaneous items that tend to clutter kitchen and bathroom spaces. This is a great one to organize documents - and take with you, and it is fireproof.

6. The Power of Shelving:

Shelves can transform a cluttered room into a neatly organized space. Floating shelves, bookcases, or even a simple set of brackets and a plank can provide a home for books, decorative items, and much more.

7. Furniture with Storage:

If you’re short on space, consider furniture that doubles as storage. Ottomans with storage, beds with drawers underneath, and coffee tables with shelves can be both functional and stylish. I like the folding Ottomans that come in all different colors, are inexpensive, and have storage. They double as coffee tables, end tables, end of bed ottomans etc, and can store SO much!

8. Label Everything:

For the items you're keeping, labels can be incredibly helpful. Whether it’s boxes in the attic or bins in the garage, having everything labeled makes it easier to find what you need and keeps your home looking tidy. I like to use the chalk stickers with the chalk pens that you can reuse and they look kinda cool if you are nerdy like me.

Decluttering your home for sale doesn’t have to be a nightmare. With the right tools and a strategic approach, you can transform your space into a buyer’s dream. Remember, the goal is to showcase the potential of your home, and a decluttered space does just that. By investing in these organizational tools, you not only make your current space more appealing but also make your eventual move much easier.
