2018 Parade of Homes award-winner! Our unique artist's residence is in a secluded neighborhood less than 5 miles from downtown, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Grove Park Inn, dozens of restaurants and breweries. Stargaze from the hot tub, watch bears from the wrap around porches. Three bedrooms with king master-suite, plus an extra basement bed. Fully-stocked granite kitchen, big-screen movie theater, woodstove, and a brainstorm wall!

As per Asheville City rules, we reside in the home and share the space with you. We will allocate the space depending on the size of your party and your requirements at the time of booking.

Our newly-renovated mountain home is nestled in a quiet cove surrounded by wildlife and mature forest just 10 minutes or less to Asheville's famous local restaurants, breweries, hiking trails, and music venues. In 2018 our home was featured in the Asheville Parade of Homes and won two awards, including Best Renovation and the coveted Viewer's Choice.

The home is designed to bring the outdoors inside: you can relax in our backyard 3-person hot tub, hang out on our forest hammock, or nap on the bed-swing or the lounges on our giant covered porch and wraparound deck (from which we often see black bears and cubs, turkeys, and other wildlife in spring and summer). In the evening, snuggle on the leather couch-recliner in our downstairs surround-sound movie theater.

Bedrooms Three bedrooms are located upstairs. The master suite is large and bright with a king-sized platform bed and premium mattress, television, high vaulted wooden ceiling, double granite bathroom vanity, roomy shower and lots of closet space.

Two additional bedrooms are also located upstairs. Both rooms feature a queen-sized bed with premium mattress, a bedside table with alarm clocks, two comfy chairs and a small table. In each closet you'll find bathrobes, extra blankets and pillows, a box fan, and an ironing board/iron.

A full bathroom is located in the hallway between the two bedrooms. There is an additional half-bath downstairs. We provided fresh linens, towels and bathrobes, as well as basic bathroom supplies.  

Kitchen The Kitchen is large, modern and open with range, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee-maker and toaster. The cabinets are fully-stocked with cooking gear and basic cooking supplies. There is a water and ice dispenser in the fridge.

Movie Theater A Big-screen, surround-sound movie theater is located in the basement. It has seating for eight people, including a leather sofa with four reclining seats.

Upstairs Lounge/Sitting Room In the upstairs lounge and sitting room you'll plan your days with a comprehensive library of trail maps, local guidebooks and restaurant menus. You'll also find coffee, tea, fridge, microwave, and other amenities.

Asheville is a foodie town famous for its incredible selection of unique restaurants, cafes, and food trucks. At last count, we found 137 eateries in downtown Asheville! The good news for you is that with all the competition, bad restaurants don’t last long. This culinary Darwinism means that if a restaurant has been in business for over a year, it’s probably damn good.

Not only is Asheville a foodtopia, it’s also world-famous for having far more breweries per capita than any other city on the planet (Portland, Oregon claims a similar number of breweries but its population is 7 times larger than Asheville). We have 30 craft breweries in town and another 30 in the surrounding area.

The choices can be bewildering, so here are a few of our favorite locally-owned eateries, breweries and cideries in no particular order. Some of them are world famous (rightfully), while a few are hidden hole-in-the-wall joints frequented by local workers where you can dip yourself a little deeper into North Carolina’s traditional culture.

BREAKFAST: Eat at BISCUITHEAD on Biltmore Ave or SUNNY POINT in West Asheville (or if you don’t want to wait in line, try HOME GROWN on nearby Merrimon Ave).

LUNCH: For a unique and delicious Asheville experience, sit at the lunch counter at the WOOLWORTH’S in downtown, or try WHITE DUCK TACO or 12 BONES BBQ in the River Arts District.

AFTERNOON SNACKS: On sunny afternoons, hang out at the original WEDGE brewery in the River Arts District (they have 2 locations–you want the one at 37 Paynes Way), have a pint of their famous IPA and a snack from the food truck and watch the freight trains go by. If ultra-chill afternoon tea is your thing, get your vibe on at DOBRA TEA downtown. A trip to Asheville also isn’t complete without a visit to the CHOCOLATE FETISH for a truffle (my favorite is the spicy Ancient Pleasure!).

DINNER: (we call it supper around here): Make your way to NINE MILE (seafood/Caribbean) in the artsy Montford neighborhood, TUPELO HONEY (gourmet Southern) in downtown, or VINNIE’S (Italian) on Merrimon Ave.

DESSERT/COCKTAIL: Watch the sunset over Asheville from the hoity-toity GROVE PARK INN and have one of their world-famous $15 mugs of hot chocolate, or if you’re downtown, head to SOVEREIGN REMEDIES for fancy cocktails. If you want legendary homemade ice cream, our favorite parlor is THE HOP on Merrimon Ave.

BREWERIES: For a great brewpub crawl, head to the South Slope (a short walk south of downtown) and check out CATAWBA, BURIAL, TWIN LEAF and GREEN MAN. Also, do not miss the SIERRA NEVADA brewery. No, it’s not a tiny craft brewery, and it’s a bit of a drive, but HOLY COW! It’s the Notre Dame Cathedral of beer. Even if you don’t drink beer, you gotta see this place to believe it. Also check out ASHEVILLE BREWERY TOURS. We’ve done it several times with friends and you’ll visit some of our best small craft breweries and sample a flight at each one–and they do all the driving!

We're less than five minutes from Merrimon Avenue, where you can find a wide variety of grocery stores, eateries, etc. Ingles and Fresh Market are literally at the end of Beaverdam road, and Trader Joe's and Harris Teeter are less than a mile down Merrimon.

In the warm months, we belong to an organic farm's CSA program and get fresh-grown produce every week.

You're five to fifteen minutes of just about everything Asheville has to offer, from bookstores to shops to breweries.

We looked for a home in Asheville for over a year and were INCREDIBLY picky. When we saw the Wolfe Cove property at the end of a road, at the top of a cove, surrounded by mature forest, yet just five minutes from Merrimon Avenue, we jumped at it instantly. In a year of looking at dozens of properties, it was the only one that gave us both close proximity to Asheville and a beautiful, secluded forest setting. We also loved the fact that with the basement and over-the-garage space, we could have LARGE his-and-hers studios. We love everything about the area. The amazing weather (low humidity, mild summers and winters), we love the progressive, artsy culture, we love the food and beer, we love the big-city resources and small-town feel. Once our kids left the house, my wife and I ran a very successful AirBNB business from this home. From mid-2017 through all of 2018, we hosted almost a thousand people in our kid’s old bedrooms. It was a marvelous experience and we met some of the most amazing people and interesting folks you can imagine. Our core audience was 20-30-something couples and solo women travelers. See the map in the hallway to get a sense of where our 2018 guests came from—every continent but Antarctica!

Within a few weeks of launching our business we became one of the most sought-after AirBNBs in Asheville, with a 100% occupancy rate. We traveled a lot, and our rooms weren’t available when we were away, but on months when we were here we averaged around $4,000 revenue, with our highest month breaking $7,000. When we offered rooms, we maintained 100% occupancy with perfect 5.0 review scores every month in all seasons, even in the dead of winter. Even with all our travels, we reached over $32,000 in revenue in 2018.

Before we decided to sell the house in order to pursue a new opportunity, we were planning to move the AirBNB rooms out of our kid’s bedrooms into the over-the garage space. This would give us (and our guests) more privacy. There’s already adjacent plumbing, so the costs would be manageable, and we estimated it would take less than 2 years for the upgrades to pay for themselves.

We loved the AirBNB experience. Of course, it’s not for everyone, but even if you’re not interested it’s also nice to know that you always have a potential income stream should your circumstances change.

Additionally, the basement studio could easily be converted into an in-law suite or apartment rental. The basement is stubbed for plumbing and has wiring for an additional 30-amp circuit.
